Marcella’s Minute to Midnight

Bawdeswell Village Hall

Written and performed by Mary Lincoln

Directed by Samuel Ripman

Marcella’s awakening happens in her mid-sixties when a botched eBay order forces her into the loft and prompts the de-cluttering of a lifetime.

Faced with artefacts that provoke a host of vivid memories, Marcella embarks on an unpredictable and unexpected journey through her past. Choosing what to hold on to and what to let go of brings her close to a full-blown late life crisis.

‘You start out starring in the story of your own life, only to find you’ve become a bit part player in everyone else’s.’

But surrounded by seemingly discarded objects and aspirations, Marcella begins to feel strangely alert...

Mary Lincoln’s career as a professional performer has spanned theatre, music theatre, improvisation, television drama and film. In her witty one woman show she delves beneath the experiences of an actress and mother, to explore universal themes of parental influence, mental health, misplaced guilt, and the fear of loss of purpose. Marcella’s tale explores how health and wellbeing are impacted when personal creativity is suppressed, whilst affirming the belief that the creative flame can be re-ignited in anyone, at any time.
