Learning from Rekindle Artists
Since launching in 2023, the Rekindle Libraries programme has collaborated with a wide range of talented artists, each bringing valuable experience of creating and delivering work in library settings. Drawing on what they’ve learned, some of our artists have shared their top tips and practical advice for others looking to develop creative projects in libraries.
Katie Green, Choreographer and Director of Made by Katie Green, reflects on her experience delivering The Story Detectives in libraries between 2019 and 2023. Based on those experiences, she has created a guide featuring nine key things to consider when planning a dance project in a library. Gav Cross, storyteller and performer, shares insights into building strong relationships with library staff and rural touring schemes, highlighting the benefits these partnerships can bring for everyone involved. He also discusses how libraries can provide welcoming spaces to test and develop new theatre with audiences, as well as offering a cost-effective way to experiment, refine ideas, and grow new work.
