Refugee Week 14th - 20th June 2010

Refugee Week is a UK-wide programme of arts, cultural and educational events that celebrate the contribution of refugees to the UK, and encourages a better understanding between communities. Refugee Week 2010 takes place from 14 to 20 June.

In Norfolk our programme of events is organised by MENTER, the East of England Black and minority ethnic network, and this year they are looking for help to widen the programme to include events in Norfolk towns and villages as well as those in Norwich city centre.

Village Screen groups have been given the opportunity to take this celebration out to their local communities to show case poignant films depicting refugees.

See our What's On listings to get a list of films and venues taking part in Refugee Week.

There will be nine screenings at seven Breckland locations and movies selected include Dean Spanley, which was filmed on location across East Anglia, Coco Before Chanel, The Kite Runner, Cheri, La Vie En Rose, Skin and The King And I.
Creative Arts East are delighted that our Patron, internationally renowned award winning writer Louis de Bernieres will formally open the Film Festival and the very first screening will be Danny Boyle's Oscar winning Slumdog Millionaire.

Awards for All We are very pleased to confirm that Awards for All, part of The National Lottery, has awarded £9860 to Creative Arts East in order to develop and expand Village Screen. We are also very grateful to Broadland District Council for additional funding. Together, this has enabled us to purchase two new sets of equipment and these will serve both East and West Norfolk, ensuring even more communities can be involved with the scheme.
